Prices

Q: How much does it cost?    The short answer: It depends....

The long answer:  The World's Wild Spaces are often expensive destinations because of strict government controls, high park fees & complex logistics.  Amongst other things, it also depends on accommodation quality, location & exclusivity; what type of vehicles are used; whether you're flying around a lot; and how many days you spend in-country.

Whatever your budget, we will recommend the best possible adventure to suit you.

Seasons

Q:  When is the best time to go?
A:
It depends on what you want to see & experience.

It may sound like a cliché to say that there is no bad time to go, however, it really is true - we know, we're there at all times of the year! There is always something happening; animals don't disappear because it's raining, although they do disperse into different areas and they do often give birth at specific times or in specific locations to take advantage of the new grazing.

So if you're constrained to travelling at a particular time, don't worry: we'll recommend the best places & parks - and the best locations within the the parks - to visit at that time.

If you have specific interests - such as seeing The Great Migration or the Okavango Delta in flood - then you do need to travel at the right time of year, AND to the right area.

Guide to the safari seasons & the best time to go to Botswana

  December - March
Summer season, with warm to hot days averaging 35C/ 95F.
Good rainfall, with late afternoon cloud build-up & thunderstorms.
Lush, green vegetation with beautiful wildflowers.
High plains game & predator densities in the Kalahari, well into April.
Great time for birding.
An excellent time for photography as the air is crisp & clear.

  April - May
Floodwaters from rainfall further upstream reach the upper parts of the Okavango Delta, and begin to inundate the floodplains.
Water is still abundant in the Linyanti area; elephant concentrations are relatively low.
Beginning of African wild dog denning period in Linyanti area.
April still sees high concentrations of plains game & predators in the Kalahari.
An excellent time for photography as the air is crisp & clear.

  June - October
June - August is the peak of the flood in the Okavango Delta, with seasonal floodplains inundated right down to the southern reaches of the Delta.
September & October see little rainfall in the Okavango Delta, daytime temperatures warm to hot, & receding floodwaters.
In the Linyanti/ Chobe/ Savuti region, inland water sources dry up, resulting in large concentrations of elephants & other wildlife around remaining water sources, such as the Linyanti & Chobe Rivers.
The Kalahari sees significantly reduced game viewing during this, the dry season. Hot during the day, chilly at night, warming up by September/ October.

  November - December
Beginning of the rainy season.
Hot days, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms & showers.
Lots of antelope births with many babies around.
November marks the start of the Eurasian bird migration into Africa.
In the Central Kalahari, December starts to see good plains wildlife & predator concentrations.

Whatever time of year you choose to travel, rest assured that when you choose to travel with us, we will advise you of the best safari locations, safari seasons and safari dates for your particular interests.
